Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

ACT is a modern, evidence‑based evolution of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), now transforming how coaches and therapists work worldwide.

Grounded in decades of research across psychology, neuroscience, and behavioural science, hundreds of studies confirm its effectiveness for anxiety, depression, stress‑related conditions and living purposefully.

ACT isn’t about fixing or erasing thoughts, it’s about developing psychological flexibility: the ability to stay open, present, and engaged with life, even when things feel difficult. Instead of debating whether thoughts are right or wrong, ACT helps you notice them, make space for them, and choose actions that move you towards what truly matters.

ACT suggests that there are two key processes that negatively impact our emotional

well being:

Experiential Avoidance, pushing away discomfort, which may appear to work short‑term but most often comes at a longer term cost and ultimately shrinks life’s possibilities.

Cognitive Fusion, getting tangled in emotions and trapped in our unhelpful thoughts as if they were facts, which makes them feel increasingly more powerful and difficult to escape.

ACT teaches practical skills to step back from these patterns and respond with awareness rather than unhelpful autopilot reactions.

This approach is safe, evidence‑based, and deeply human, helping people move forward not by fighting their thoughts, but by learning how to live well and purposefully beside them.

ACT vs CBT: What Does The Research Say?

Recent high‑quality studies show that ACT and CBT are comparable in effectiveness, with ACT matching CBT’s outcomes across anxiety, depression, and stress‑related difficulties. While CBT has been around longer and is still considered the NHS gold standard, many people find the CBT approach challenging to engage with. ACT is hot on its heels, rapidly growing in popularity and uptake across the UK.

The NHS, NICE, and the UN all recognise the efficacy of ACT, and UK mental health services and practitioners are increasingly adopting ACT principles in their work. ACT is already well established in the US and Australia and is fast becoming the “new kid on the block” and the one to watch in the UK.

A 2023 three‑level meta‑analysis (1) found no significant difference in overall efficacy between ACT and CBT, suggesting both approaches are similarly effective across a wide range of conditions.

A 2026 systematic review (2) of randomised controlled trials further supports ACT’s effectiveness, showing strong evidence across multiple clinical presentations .

In short: ACT works as well as CBT and in many cases, ACT’s focus on psychological flexibility, values, and workable action makes it a more natural fit for teens and adults who struggle with avoidance, overwhelm, and fusion.

Welcome to the future!

Integrated Hypnosis

Hypnosis is a natural, focused state of attention, similar to being absorbed in a good book, a game, a moment of deep reflection or just a good daydream.

You remain fully in control, fully aware, and able to choose what you do with every suggestion offered.

Modern Hypnosis isn’t about mind control; it’s about creating the right conditions for your mind to learn, process, and shift more effectively.

Research consistently shows that hypnosis can enhance emotional regulation, reduce anxiety, improve focus, and support behavioural change. Studies that back this up have been published in The Lancet, American Journal of Clinical Hypnosis, and Psychological Bulletin.

Hypnosis works by engaging the subconscious patterns that drive thoughts, feelings, and behaviours, the same patterns that ACT helps you observe and understand.

When combined, they create a powerful pathway for change that is both evidence‑based and deeply human.

Somatic Approaches

Body‑based grounding, nervous system regulation, and experiential techniques that support stability and transformation.

Both ACT and Integrated Hypnosis are highly effective when paired with somatic approaches, such as grounding, breath-work, Faster EFT, Havening and other nervous‑system‑based techniques, because the body often holds onto stress long after the mind 'makes sense' of what’s happening (or happened!).

When the mind, body, and subconscious are all working together, people tend to move forward faster, with more stability and less internal resistance.
